Enjoy a few hours at LongRun’s farm, an idyllic 100 acre setting housing over 50 retired Thoroughbred racehorses in a serene lush green setting, away from the hustle and bustle of your city/town. Learn about the 500 year history behind these incredible four legged athletes, meet past champions and millionaire earners and marvel at their great beauty and intelligence.
This private tour for you and your group will be led by experts who are and have been immersed in horse racing for many years! You will hear about many aspects of thoroughbred racing and gain a better understanding of what makes a thoroughbred a good racehorse. You’ll learn about what goes on during the daily life of a racehorse on the backstretch, and how these horses, through the generous sponsorship of Ontario’s racing industry and its members, are transitioned from racetrack life to the slower tempo of retirement and adoption through rest, rehabilitation and re-schooling.
Your tour starts at 10am and ends at 1pm, beginning with a leisurely walk through the property. At each pasture along the way, you will meet our horses and learn some of their stories and be offered the opportunity to treat the horses with carrots and enjoy selfies with your favourites. Once the walking portion of the tour is over, you may witness one of our thoroughbreds awaiting adoption being ridden in our outdoor ring as a part of his or her re-schooling to a dignified and happy retirement from racing. Finally, you will be introduced to one of our retirees “up close and personal”, where you will be able pet and take photos with a horse, learn about his/her career and most of all enjoy a connection to one of these majestic animals.
At 12 noon the formal portion of your tour will conclude, but we invite you to bring your lunch and enjoy it at one of our picnic tables, strategically placed near the horses, allowing you to continue to enjoy the beauty and serenity of our picturesque facility and its inhabitants. As our farm crew will need to attend to the horses and the many tasks required of them before day’s end, we ask that ask that you bid the horses and farm a fond farewell at 1pm.
This unique experience costs only $200 for a group of up to 4 people – additional people up to a group of 8 will come at an additional cost of $25 per person. This is a unique experience ideal for a family outing and, after meeting our “herd”, should you want to contribute to our horses’ comfort and care, we would be happy to speak to you regarding tax receipts for your donations and sponsorships.
To book your tour please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org please include the date you are interested in coming to the farm as well as the names of the people who will be joining you. Payment can be arranged at that time.
