HOOKED ON HORSES
Why Hooked On Horses?
Many people in today’s society light up when you mention horses and long for a chance to touch or be near these magnificent creatures.
Why do horses evoke this type of reaction? Horses have been closely connected to humans for centuries. They ploughed our fields, took the family to church, delivered our mail and milk, carried warriors into battle and were also regarded as a sign of wealth.
Through Hooked on Horses, we are trying to re-establish the horse-human link lost during the industrial revolution and invite you to learn hands-on about the sacred world of the horse. This program will introduce you to horses and educate you under the guidance of experienced horse people. As there will be no riding involved, there is no need to acquire expensive riding equipment.
Some of the horses used in our program are ex-racehorses. These blue-blooded thoroughbreds are being fostered by LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society, a registered charity mandated to provide a dignified retirement for the horses who run for our pleasure. While acting as ambassadors to the community, these horses are awaiting permanent homes with loving adopters. They are highly intelligent, athletic and anxious to assist in educating and reconnecting humans with horses.
Our horse courses are designed for people with all levels of knowledge, from the greenest novice to the most experienced equestrian. We will touch on topics not generally covered in riding lessons and will introduce you to the world of horses from the ground up. And because we will be privileged to work with some former participants in “The Sport of Kings”, a portion of the proceeds of your enrolment fee will go back to LongRun to further support the transition of these magnificent thoroughbreds from racing into retirement.
